Last Chance--Conscience Protection

4/9/2009
Let your voice be heard!

Today is the last day to offer commentary on the proposed rescission of conscience-protection regulations. Emails can be sent to proposedrescission@hhs.gov. More details are available at the CUF Blog, where we've been covering the topic.

And here is a sample letter:

To whom it may concern:

I strongly oppose plans to rescind conscience-protection regulations.

The proposed rescission of conscience-protection regulations is inconsistent with the status quo, where conscientious objectors are not discriminated against for refusing to engage in combat or administer lethal injections.

Health care professionals should not be forced to participate in acts that violate their consciences, and their right to follow their consciences should be protected by law. Additionally, patients should have the freedom to choose doctors and health care providers who share their values.

Please retain the conscience regulation, and enforce current laws protecting the right of health care providers to serve patients without violating their moral and religious convictions.

Sincerely,

From Our Founder

[CUF’s] third purpose is to further the all-important renewal which the documents of the recent Council call for and which Pope Paul has described as an inner, personal, moral renewal. This purpose is, of course, the first in importance, and is a pre-requisite for the others. It means that we exist in order to respond publicly and together to what Vatican II called the universal vocation to holiness.
