New Vice President Named!

CUF announces the promotion of Mike Sullivan to Vice President

CUF is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Sullivan to the position of vice president. In addition to his continued work as Lay Witness editor-in-chief, Sullivan’s new duties will include increased interaction with Church leaders and CUF members. "I will be traveling a lot, representing CUF at conferences and speaking to many of our chapters throughout the United States," said Sullivan. "I also expect to have greater involvement with daily office administration and with the staff--listening to and addressing any ideas, questions, or concerns they may have."

Before the announcement of Sullivan’s promotion, the office of vice president had been vacant since 2001. CUF’s board of directors, which is responsible for electing CUF officers, decided that the apostolate had reached a point where filling the office was necessary.

CUF President Leon Suprenant said that he is delighted with the board’s decision. "Mike has demonstrated his leadership capabilities through his role as editor-in-chief of Lay Witness and through his interactions with the media, CUF chapters, and the staff. He understands the spirit of the apostolate, and brings energy and wisdom beyond his years to the position.

"Mike’s also been in charge of our local CUF chapter for a number of years. He’s a devoted family man and a pillar in the local church. We’re honored and blessed to have him with us."

Sullivan’s new position already has him traveling far and wide: This past spring, he attended the national meeting of the Institute on Religious Life in Mundelein, Illinois, the Catholic Press Association convention in Nashville, Tennessee, and gave three talks to CUF members in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I also agree that the laity generally are still too passive (that is, when they’re not too aggressively active!). That is really one of the basic reasons for the existence of CUF: to be a little alarm clock to wake people up, and then a center around which they can rally, and act in the way befitting members of Christ’s true Church. . . . The situation keeps changing, and it’s important that the laity try to act under some kind of coordination, which only an organization like CUF can provide.
