When we see the failings of many around us, do we use those failings of
others as a pretext for failings of our own: for discouragement (which is in
itself a defect of faith) or for anger (which puts us in danger of hell
fire)? Or does the sight of them drive us deeper into the arms of Christ,
into deeper contrition, into a deeper awareness of our own need of mercy, a
deeper faith, and more loving service of the truth?
